Audio Collection

Frequency representation of a piece of music by Max Matthews

The ZKM has a collection of musical works with over 9,000 titles. The majority of these are works of electroacoustic and computer-supported music. The audio collection is maintained by the department Wissen | Collection, Archives & Research.

The heart of the collection is IDEAMA. The "International Digital Electro-Acoustic Music Archive" is one of the early systematic study editions of electroacoustic music and was one of the first music archives to be distributed on audio CDs by ZKM | Karlsruhe and the CCRMA | Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics at Stanford University from 1990. IDEAMA contains 569 titles.

The audio collection also provides access to productions of the Institute for Music and Acoustics and to audio recordings from various archives (including the Karl Sczuka Prize, Yellow Music, Hans G Helms, Het Appollohuis, Heinrich Klotz).

If you have any questions about the video and audio collection, feel free to send us a message: collection-and-archives@zkm.de.
