ArtOnYourScreen (AOYS) is ZKM's innovative online exhibition platform. It is a place for artistic production and education under the conditions of the networked world.

First of all, it intends to dissolve the boundaries between art genres such as painting, sculpture, literature, music, dance, theater, opera, performance, video, and also those between spatially-based and temporally-based arts.
Second, it intends to transform the public space by way of the Internet, which presents a technology and affiliated economy that not only facilitate worldwide distribution and presentation of time-based arts, but also immediates feedback processes between works of art and viewers.

With AOYS, the ZKM has created a digital exhibition space that provides an overview of the creative work of different generations of artists. Art works are produced whose full effect unfolds only on the internet. The spectrum ranges from purely screen-based art works to performative projects to generative, typographically-oriented literature, from interactive film and participatory formats through to activist approaches. Here, young software artists encounter established artists who until this time have worked exclusively offline. For AOYS, they now collaborate to create digital works for public-virtual space.

The project regularly launches artistic approaches and is planned for the long-term. In an initial phase, planned for one year, twelve works were produced and published, accompanied by art-historical contextualization and an online educational program.
