The documentary heritage, which we pass down to future generations, will be above all a digital heritage. However, the increasing digitalization of information and its provision in the preferred digital formats brings with it a high degree of technological dependency. This dependency on technology presents societies with major, hitherto unforeseen and far-reaching unsolved problems regarding the preservation and transference of their digital products. And yet, the processing of these fundamental problems and questions in Germany, and in other European nations began only in the previous decades.

Following Wildau (2008) and Cologne (2010) the conference on “Technology and Culture” will this year be held in Karlsruhe and, in keeping with the title “Digitalization and Conservation of Digital Cultural Heritage”, will be given over to the problems, questions and perspectives connected with the conservation and transference of digital heritage. The thematic breadth of the submitted contributions covers questions relating to the digitalization of cultural goods, praxis-oriented contributions to technical and semantic conservation and, consequently, to the documentation, restoration, storage and archiving of digital art and cultural artifacts in museums and archives. 

The conference encompasses the following themes:

1.       Digital production of information and cultural goods 
2.       Conservation of historical heritage digitalization
3.       Distribution, use, participation and archiving on the Internet
4.       Technical and organizational problems in digital transference 
5.       Semantic conservation – documentation and contextualization 
6.       Normative evaluation of knowledge and knowledge ethics
