Klangdom Concert
Sat, November 12, 2011 6 pm CET, Concert
Compositions with spatial and conceptual depth of field are set to be staged in the spatial and auditory scenario of the ZKM_Klangdom that comprises 47 loudspeakers. Radio and radio plays are at the center of a spirited scrutiny from various perspectives. The premier showing of the electro-acoustic work for the Klangdom "Radio-aktiv", by British composer Leigh Landy throws a humorous glance at the radio world with no ifs and buts, and samples recordings by German broadcasters. Whether one follows the densely mounted snatches of words and signals semantically, or allows them to melt into a series of musical sounds when listening, is something which is left to the audience. Afterwards, the three award-winning pieces of the announcement sound for the first time "Ferrari (r) écouté", a project of the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics in cooperation with hr2-kultur. From material drawn from the radio play realized in 1982 (hr) "JETZT" by Luc Ferrari, new productions emerged in 2011, which pay homage to the master the "radio play as music", either with exciting emphasis or by destroying it, while at the same time providing a commentary up-to-date means. The award-winners are to be announced during the concert.

Since 1997 the five-head artist collective INSTITUT FUER FEINMOTORIK have been pushing the possibilities of their medium to the limits in experimental performances – in the work with DJ mixers and prepared record players, on which not records, but everyday materials such as rubber bands, paperclips and adhesive labels are sampled. From this courageous reduction of radiophone means there emerges an aggregate in sound formed body of enigmatic antiquity. "The 50 sculptures for fine motor skills", a Südwestrundfunk production, convinced this year’s jury of the Karl-Sczuka-Prize by its concrete, sensual tonal quality as much as did their radical consistency. The IFF prepared a selection of these sculptures for the Klangdom and presented them at the ARD Radio Play Days. In the presences of the IFF and the winner of Ferrari (r)écouté.

The announcement is carried out in cooperation with hr2-kultur; the prize-winning pieces will be broadcast on 10 December, 2011 in hr2-kultur ("The Artist's Corner", 11.05 pm – 12 midnight).
