IMA_experiments 1
Marc Behrens and Richard Francis live
Tue, September 18, 2012 8 pm CEST, Concert Series
In the prelude to the new series, IMA_experiments with contemporary, non-academic, electronic music (sound, ambient, noise), is a double concert by the artists Marc Behrens (GER) and Richard Francis (NZ). Both can be counted among the young generation of experimental musicians who follow a multidisciplinary approach and stand for a large stylistic spectrum.
Marc Behrens works together with the pop artist AtomTM (also Senior Coconut, among others), yet he also exhibits his sound-art works in large museums. Behrens has his roots in the subculture of Industrial Music (with numerous releases on tape and CD), and has recently been active also in other areas, for example as photographer, video artist, or author. Behrens is a member of the artist colony KREV - Kingdoms of Elgaland-Vargaland.

Richard Francis is one of the most important artists of the contemporary electronic music scene in New Zealand. In his compositions there is always a high level of improvisation and a crossing of analog and digital technologies. Francis operates his own sound-recording label, CMR, on which he produces, along with his own works, the works of other international musicians such as, for example, Tetuzi Akiyama, Roel Meelkop or Bruce Russell. Richard Francis is also active as an installation artist and graphic designer and lives and works in Auckland, NZ.

Information on the new concert series

IMA_experiments 1

The series IMA_experiments aims to provide international musicians with a forum for contemporary electronic music. The series shall present artists operating outside of the academic scene, who often have no access to large electronic studios or for whom large production opportunities, such as those available at the Institute for Music and Acoustics (IMA), are unknown. With these concerts, the IMA also finds important impulses from outside and puts them on the map as a working studio for contemporary electronic music. At the same time it makes the activities and possibilities of the IMA more recognizable to this circle of artists and actors and, not least, to an expanded audience circle.
