AppArtAward 2013
Thre prizes stand on a pedestal
Fri, July 12, 2013 8 pm CEST, Award Ceremony
App goes Art ⁄⁄ Art goes App: Apps have risen to become a popular medium and a permanent feature of today’s mobile culture. Not only service applications, but completely new art forms are emerging. ZKM is staying abreast of this development together with the CyberForum e.V. and its partners and for the third time will award the international AppArtAward.

Artists, designers, and developers from all parts of the world had the possibility, from March 11 to May 12, 2013, to enter their developments in the competition. Each prize is oriented on the current technological developments and reflects the innovative productions among developers in the specific areas of information technology. All three prizes are in the amount of € 10,000. Premiered will be the best artworks in the app format for smartphones and tablets, which present creative software solutions in the categories.
After the awarding, the best apps will be presented at the exhibition "AppArtAward 2013 − Highlights".

At 8 p.m., the award ceremony takes place in ZKM_Medientheater. By transforming tablets and smartphones into musical instruments, the DigiEnsemble from Berlin provides the appropriate musical accompaniment. At the App-Lounge from 10 p.m., the visitors have the possibility to come together with the winners and test the winning apps. With delicious "app-eritifs" the evening ends in a relaxed lounge atmosphere.

Special Prize for Crowd Art

“Crowd Art” refers both to deterritorialized, networked cloud computing, and to the collective creativity that is enabled by it. Crowd Art further refers to the transition of the analog age of production to the age of digital distribution. Apps on mobile end products are the global experimental labs for this new art form.

Special Prize for Augmented Reality Art

The applications for “Augmented Reality” testify to a specific kind of computer-generated, supplemental information. Virtual objects that intersect with real space form an added dimension and expand our possibilities of perception. The creative further development of this technology in the mobile area stands at the focus of the Augmented Reality Art Award.
