IMA | lab No. 22: Gerriet K. Sharma
Gastkünstler im Gespräch
Thu, February 06, 2014 6 pm CET, Talk

Sound artist and composer Gerriet K. Sharma will be introducing himself at the first IMA | lab edition of 2014. The current guest artist at the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics will be continuing to carry out his investigations on the spatial sound composition “grafik unten [graphic below]”.

Gerriet K. Sharma focusses on sound art composition and the organization of sound. His work centers, above all, on the arrangement and movement of acoustic signals in space. For Sharma, the merging of sound and space represents an overcoming of the boundaries between fine art and music, whereby especially 3D sound project techniques offer possibilities for space sound compositions and, consequently, three-dimensional sound tracks. A utopia of a virtually immaterial sound sculpture, which can be ‘physically’ grasped by the ear.

A second field of work covers the radiophone sound composition. In this case, Gerriet K. Sharma’s interest focuses on the connection of text, language and sound with the aim of discovering a unique acoustic language in the connection between word and sound over extended periods of time. He also researches the relationship between image and sound in audio-visual installations, as well as in TV, film and theater. The new interpretation of the effects and modes of action of established figures fall within the scope of his interests, since it is here, in particular, that experiments are carried out in medial perception through deviation or exaggeration, or where audio and visual habits could also be challenged.
