Live on the spot: Employees from Doctors without Borders report
Decontamination after leaving the high-security zone in ELWA3, the Doctors' Without Borders Ebola Treatment Center in Monrovia, Liberia.
Wed, March 22, 2017 7 pm CET, Lecture

At the »Live vor Ort« event, employees tell of their missions with »Doctors without Borders«. Christian Kleine will be speaking at this evening, who was on duty during the peak of the Ebola epidemic in the Liberian capital of Monrovia.

»We sometimes had so many patients that we had to turn them away at the door«, says the Frankfurt-based doctor Christian Kleine. »Those were the worst times for me.« Nevertheless, the team was able to help many people, »it was important to me to support patients emotionally as well, as Ebola has a very high mortality rate. Many patients had lost relatives. As time in protective suits directly with patients was limited, I often also spoke with them over the fence to the high-risk zone.«

But how do you cope with the emotional burden yourself? How do you protect yourself from infection? And what is it like to come home after such an extreme mission? Christian Kleine will talk about these and other questions. Following the lecture, there will be an opportunity to speak with Christian Kleine and other employees from Doctors without Borders.
