Karl Gerstner studied at the Allgemeine Gewerbeschule in Basel under Emil Ruder before a three-year apprenticeship as a graphic designer. 1959 co-founder of the Agentur für Werbung, Grafik, Publizität, Gerstner + Kutter, later renamed GGK (Gerstner, Gredinger + Kutter). 1970 left GGK to focus on his artistic work. He lived in Basel, CH, Hippoltskirch, FR, and Paris, FR.
