Countless camera eyes and sensors are trained on the world today. They capture land masses and seafloors, the surfaces of plants, the bodies of humans and animals, and the composition of the atmosphere. Complex computation processes translate the measured data into images. These processes are the basis for gaining new knowledge – they control and monitor industrial production processes and also control and facilitate decision-making in medicine, law, and politics.
»Maschinensehen« [machine vision] provides a look at the locations where people are working on new techniques for measuring, visualizing, and automation. It documents an area of our culture which is changing so fast that knowledge about all the current concepts, apparatus, and procedures will be consigned to oblivion within a very short space of time.
