Biografie

Thomas Beth studierte Mathematik, Physik und Medizin an der Universität Göttingen und der Ohio State University. 1978 promovierte er in Mathematik an der Universität Erlangen, habilitierte 1984 im Fach Informatik. 1984 bis 1985 unterrichtete er als Professor of Computer Science an der University of London, war Leiter des Departements of Statistics and Computer Science am Royal Holloway College. Seit 1985 ist er ordentlicher Universitätsprofessor für Informatik an der Universität Karlsruhe [TH], seit 1988 Direktor des Europäischen Instituts für Systemsicherheit [E.I.S.S.] ebenfalls an der Universität Karlsruhe [TH]. In den letzten Jahren baute er in Karlsruhe das Institut für Algorithmen und Kognitive Systeme [IAKS] auf, ein Forschungszentrum für Quanteninformatik, in dem das Wissen unterschiedlicher Abteilungen zusammengeführt wird: Computer-Algebra, Kombinatorik, Kryptographie, Codierungs- und Informationstheorie sowie Algorithmen-Theorie.
