A reason to celebrate! Commissioned by the Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain and ZKM, the film »Nature« has won several awards.

As part of the official selection of the 59th New York Film Festival, the new film »Nature« (2020) by legendary Armenian filmmaker Artavazd Peleshyan, co-produced by ZKM, will have its US premiere. It will be screened at the Francesca Baela Theater on Tuesday, October 5 at 6:30 pm and Wednesday, October 6 at 4 pm. Moreover, the Festival also features the world premiere of »2 Pasolini«, a new film by filmmaker and former director of the ZKM Film Institute Andrei Ujică.

In addition, the IDFA International Documentary Film Festival has also announced the first selected films for its 34th edition, which will take place from November 17-28 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Almost thirty years after the release of his last film, IDFA presents the European premiere of »Nature«, produced by ZKM | Center for Art and Media and Fondation Cartier pour l'art contemporain with the support of Folk Arts Hub Foundation. The 64-minute triumph offers a monumental cinematic experience, returning to Peleshyan's signature fascination with human fragility in the face of nature's titanic glory – this time through a swirling composition of found footage of natural disasters. Nature is a true visual poem that defies the classic distinction between fiction and documentary. In celebration of his new film, IDFA will honor Peleshyan with the Lifetime Achievement Award and screen three treasures from his oeuvre. Peleshyan will be present along with Andrei Ujică.

»I am convinced that cinema can convey certain things that no language in the world can translate. For me, it goes back to the Tower of Babel, to before the division into different languages.«
