On the occasion of the current competition for the \\international\media\art\award 2005 for science and art, until the beginning of April, the ZKM media lounge will present the prize winning entries and nominees from last year’s competition. This year's theme is: »Mental Images. From the imagined image to brain research« (deadline for entries: 31 March 2005).

In 2004, the competition was aimed for the first time toward artists and scientists as image producers. »The theme inVISIBLE. art_science« presented an attempt to enact a long overdue paradigm change, namely, to turn attention to art's loss of monopoly of the image in an era of apparatus-based perception and mechanical and media-supported image production, in which the natural sciences have also developed highly interesting and relevant image processes.
