Turkish Television in Germany
Opportunities for Career Training and the Economy
Thu, October 21, 2010 – Fri, October 22, 2010, Symposium
A rich media landscape has developed in Turkey over the past several years. Turkish television has experienced a nearly turbulent development in the process. Alone the number of shows broadcast to Germany increased from 46 to more than 150 between 2004 and 2010. Based on findings by media research, Turkish television has thus taken over a key position for Turkish-speaking immigrants living in Germany.
Against this backdrop, Turkish television is of great interest to actors from the economy, politics, and education. In order to smooth out obstacles to cooperation that have existed until now, for the first time, an event especially with representatives from major Turkish television stations will take place at ZKM with funding from the Ministry of Economic Affairs Baden-Württemberg. The status and perspectives of media work, as well as future possibilities for cooperation between German and Turkish institutions will be discussed from the perspectives of politics, media research, and representatives of the broadcasting stations. The first day of the two-day experts’ meeting, 21 October, will be dedicated especially to the ZKM’s project work funded by the Ministry of Economic Affairs Baden-Württemberg focusing on the theme of career training in the context of Turkish television. On 22 October, the broadcasting institutions will present themselves and discuss, in particular, a cooperation with the German economy.
