Ivan Faktor. First Program. Józef Robakowski. The Handshake. Bernhard Sandfort. Dialogic Painting and the Museum of Questions (Opening)
Exhibitions at ZKM | Museum of Contemporary Art
Fri, June 15, 2012 7 pm CEST, Opening

The three exhibitions "Ivan Faktor. First Program", "Józef Robakowski. The Handshake" and "Bernhard Sandfort. Dialogic Painting and the Museum of Questions" seem to have barely anything in common at first sight. What does unite all three artists, however, is the influence that respective avant-gardist aspirations exerted on them during their time.

Faktor and Robakowski count among the pioneers who took up the challenges of the new media technologies in the arts, and whose later transformation of such innovations was exemplary. The distinct artistic approaches represent formative development of the electronic image and sound worlds, which was hitherto associated with the West.
Bernhard Sandfort as well is one of the most influential artists of 20th century Europe. Not only because of his drawing and painting work, but also because of the fact he launched the so-called "Produzentengalerie" [Producer's Gallery] in Germany. In this sense, his virtual "Museum der Fragen" [Museum of Questions] (1977), still in operation today, draws on a participative approach to the democratic idea of civic involvement and describes "an artistic inception of the pioneer in the age of the digital network: the prosumer" (Peter Weibel).

The artists Ivan Faktor, Józef Robakowski and Bernhard Sandfort will be present for the exhibition opening.
