Hacking, programming, lectures, workshops – and of course goulash! Entropia e.V. and Chaos Computer Club (CCC) Karlsruhe are issuing the invitation to participate in the GPN again in 2016!

From the day of the Feast of Corpus Christi, Thursday, May 26, 2016 until Sunday May 29, 2016, the GPN16 will be taking place in the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (HfG) and the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe.

The Goulash Programmers’ Night sounds like a marathon cooking session for sleepless IT students. What began in 2002 in a Karlsruhe cellar with a couple of technophiles has grown into one of the largest events of the local Chaos Computer Club. The themes are diverse: Hardware and software development and data security are at the heart of it. But alongside, there is data protection, internet policy and many other fascinating subjects: How do you cook the perfect goulash? Can you make attractive jewellery from scrap hardware? How does a sewing machine actually work? How do you fly spaceships?

The Goulash Programmers’ Night is hosted by Entropia e. V. / Chaos Computer Club Karlsruhe and is the continuation of the association’s activities in larger premises – in the atriums of the HfG and the lecture theatres of the ZKM – to which more than 500 visitors are expected.

The important thing is, despite the depth into which some speakers delve, the Goulash Programmers’ Night is not just aimed at »digital natives« or freaks. Everyone is welcome and can learn something. As the old saying goes, »we like everything«.

Staying true to the name, programming is naturally the main thing at a GPN. In the atriums and the »Hackcenter«, there are tables with power and internet connections, at which guests can set up camp. Most arrive with a project, in order to spend a couple of focussed days and maybe nights at the Goulash Programmers’ Night. This does not mean that questions are banned. On the contrary: Most hackers, if they are not currently in the depths of programming mediation, are happy to provide information about their hobby. They are also happy to present their finished projects, and so the Goulash Programmers’ Night swarms with home-made light installations and equipment. Recently, the 3D printer and textile hackers have enjoyed great popularity.

The second main component of a Goulash Programmers’ Night, alongside the activities in the Hackcenter, is the programme of workshops and lectures.

Take part in the GPN:

The Goulash Programmers’ Night is an open event to all. However, the organizers would prefer you to register in advance so they can better prepare for the visitor numbers and buy enough ingredients for the famous goulash. Visitors, who are in a position to, are also asked to make a donation. As the Goulash Programmers’ Night is organized and hosted completely by volunteers, it is dependent on strong support. »Trolls«, who contribute invaluably to the success of the GPN, are highly regarded, in contrast to their reputation in internet discussions.
