The versatile »It's about Life« program focuses on the diversity of life and explores new perspectives on sustainability and coexistence on our planet.

In this context, ZKM is very concerned about the war in Ukraine, which more than ever requires a collective negotiation of the challenges and responsibility for all life on our planet. Therefore, ZKM decided to facilitate projects by and for Ukrainian cultural practitioners to offer them a platform and to promote cultural exchange, especially in these precarious times. One of these events is the one-day program by antiwarcoalition.art – International Coalition of Cultural Workers Against the War in Ukraine.

The event entitled »When the language is lost. Possibilities of political art in the face of war« addresses the possibilities of communicating in a situation when communication is lost as an instrument. What type of artistic language can we elaborate and how can we work in the catastrophic situation of lost humanism? If there is still space for political art and what forms can the artists’ statements take? Are we still capable to elaborate languages coherent in describing the war and finding options to overcome trauma when genocides time and again appear in the history of humanity?

International Coalition of Cultural Workers Against the War in Ukraine is an open online platform that collects, shares, and distributes statements against war created by artists from all over the world. Driven by the Russian aggression and war against Ukraine, this platform presents an opportunity to protest against war, dictatorship, and authoritarianism. It is an opportunity to express solidarity with those in Ukraine who are affected by the Russian military aggression and with those resisting colonial, patriarchal, imperialistic, and political repressions and terror elsewhere.
