Dr. Albert Käuflein was born in 1960 in Karlsruhe. He studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the universities of Freiburg i.Br. and Mainz. He graduated with a diploma in theology. He completed a journalistic training for theologians at the Munich Institute for the Promotion of Young Journalists. He received his doctorate at the University of Mainz in 1994 with a thesis on the establishment of ethical norms.
In 2004, Dr. Käuflein first ran for the Karlsruhe municipal council. On 17 October 2017, the municipal council elected him mayor. Dr. Käuflein is also an author, co-author, editor and co-editor of several books as well as the author of numerous scientific essays and journalistic articles.
