Peter Weibel receives Austrian Art Award

Peter Weibel, artistic-scientific director of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media since 1999, was awarded the Austrian Art Prize 2017 in the category Media Art. 

The award, endowed with 15,000 euros, annually honors established artists »for their comprehensive, internationally recognized oeuvre«, according to the website of the Austrian Ministry of Culture. The award is presented in seven different categories and, in addition to the category of media art, also includes film, fine arts and photography. 

The award ceremony will take place on July 12 in the Austrian Federal Chancellery in Vienna.

Other prize winners besides Peter Weibel are Wolf Hass in the category literature, Martin Walde in the category visual arts, Brigitta Burger-Utzer in the category film, the Lower Austrian festival »wellenklaenge« in the category cultural initiatives, Bernhard Fuchs in the category artistic photography and Josef Aichinger in the category music.
