- Description
- A small pixel character moves through a world that recalls early handheld video games. Erick Calderon — known as Snowfro — describes this figure as a self-portrait. For years, the “Pixel Man” has appeared in various works by the artist, becoming a kind of stand-in for his own artistic identity. The work combines generative art, blockchain technology, and video game aesthetics. Each of the 1,000 NFTs contains not only an individual image, but also a fully generated Game Boy Advance game that can be downloaded and played. The work thus exists simultaneously as an image, a piece of software, and an interactive experience. What is particularly significant is the technical structure of the piece: it belongs to a new form of so-called “Living Art.” Through parameters stored on the blockchain, the work can change over time, respond to user interactions, or be expanded through later interventions by the artist. The artwork is therefore not conceived as a fixed, completed object, but as a dynamic system capable of ongoing development. With LIFT (a self portrait), Calderon combines autobiographical elements with central ideas of Web3 culture: participation, collective networks, and the notion of the artwork as a continuously mutable digital infrastructure.
