The young label MITEK is the new watering hole for the continually growing crowd of experimental, electronic composers of the European North. Its goal is to produce and promote new Scandinavian sound artists from this field. The spectrum of styles of the first releases range from abstract minimalism to experimental techhouse. And the list of the artists represented reads like a Who Is Who in the Electronics Scene: In addition to label boss Mikael Stavöstrand (alias VITA) and Andreas Tilliander, known by their smooth sounding releases on Mille Plateaux or Force Inc., Swedens freakiest technohouse producer and party veteran Hakan Lidbo has delivered a CD for the new label from home—following countless releases on labels ranging from Paper to Tresor and remixes for Fatboy Slim and Si Begg.
The concert at the ZKM is the first MITEK showcase in Germany. The label presents itself comprehensively with five acts. Sweden’s new discoveries will also be presented: Folie, already lauded by de:bug as artist of the month for his warm, rich melodies (»Defying categorization can be so enrapturing«) and Claudia Bonarelli with subtle bass lines, minimal beats and low chords.
