ZKM presents 4DSOUND: Points on the Curve
Huge microphones in a room
Fri, March 04, 2016 – Sat, March 05, 2016, Concert

As part of two concert evenings, key works of electronic spatial music are going to be investigated. At the same time »Points on the Curve« will highlight new possibilities on how new forms of musical expression can be found through the use of innovative technologies and how the future of immersive sound exploration can be shaped.

Newly developed works will be presented which have been created as part of the working scholarships awarded by the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics in cooperation with 4DSOUND. The concert program will be supplemented with the presentation of work by students at Karlsruhe College of Arts and Design (HfG) which have been developed especially for the 4DSOUND system as part of a seminar.

On the opening evening the audience will get to experience a 4DSOUND performance by the artist and composer Cristian Vogel and will be immersed in the work of Athens-based artist Alyssa Moxley, who has specialized on the work with Field Recordings. The new interpretation of »Orient-Occident« by Xenakis will be a further highlight of the evening.

On the second evening of the concert, the young Belgian sound artist and composer Koenraad Ecker will present a new work developed especially for the 4DSOUND system. The evening will also provide a rare opportunity to experience a performance of the groundbreaking electro-acoustic composition »Poème èlectronique« by Edgar Varèse. At the end of the evening, the audience can look forward to enjoying the sounds of sound artist and producer James Whipple, alias M.E.S.H., who recently released his first EP on the experimental label PAN.
