    Program curator for electronic music and sound art
    (50%, initially limited to 2 years)

    In this position, which is integrated into the ZKM | Hertzlab, you will be responsible for ZKM’s program of artistic research on music, which opens up the diversity of electronic music in the context of developments in technology to the public globally. Via open calls, composers and sound artists of all ages and in crossover with classical and pop music are invited to work in our studios as guest artists. You will also be responsible for festivals and the Giga Hertz Award.

    We expect technological expertise and an eager interest in areas such as AI in composition or algorithmic sound research, combined with curatorial experience in electronic and electroacoustic music. In addition to networking with artists and the scene, we also expect an interest in the creative use of technology in music. With five recording studios, ZKM is also a production site for electronic sound art and for the interlinking of sound and visual art. With our Cube, we also possess a building with one of the most internationally renowned architectures for spatial sound.

    Responsibilities:

    • Curatorial development of the annual music program;
    • Curatorial supervision of the Giga Hertz Festival and the next_generation Festival (the two events alternate annually);
    • Preparation and implementation of residencies in the fields of composition and sound art, including creating and implementing calls for proposals;
    • Networking the ZKM in the national and international electronic music and sound art scene;
    • Maintaining contacts with national and international artists;
    • Responsibility for implementing programs including budget control;
    • Collaboration in acquiring third-party funds;
    • External representation role for the ZKM music program.

    Qualifications:

    • Artistic or curatorial professional CV in the field of music and crossover with a focus on electronic music and sound art as well as technological expertise;
    • Broad portfolio of projects and networks;
    • Several years of experience in program and festival design;
    • Excellent communication and teamwork skills as well as social competence;
    • Very good knowledge of developments in technology.

    We offer you an interesting and varied job in the public sector. The salary is based on the collective agreement for public service employees (TVöD), Pay Group 13. The contract is initially limited to 50% for 2 years with the option of extension.
