Description
As pioneer of media art, in the lecture Lauren Dyer Amazeen will give an account of her impressions of the early intentions and activities of the ZKM and its position as part of the avant-garde of the outgoing 1980s. She will present her take on the changes that have since occurred in the arts and of future developments. As executive director of “The Kitchen,” a center which worked in a range of artistic media such as video, music, dance, performance and film in New York, Lauren Dyer Amazeen, was an important advisor in the conceptual phase of the ZKM. At the “MultiMediale 1” (1989) she presented ten American artists at the Karlsburg, such as Bill Viola, who, each in their own way, examined the situation of people in the period of transition of the outgoing 20th century.
In 1997 Lauren Dyer Amazeen founded the non-profit organisation “Vanguard Visions,” which, based in Stockholm since 2000, has branches in New York and Glasgow. As executive producer for “Vanguard Visions” her efforts have been directed at creating new channels of dissemination, extended resonance and independent networks for the artistic avant-garde. Alongside her other activities, Lauren Dyer Amazeen is an active art critic writing regularly for several international art publications.
