Biography

Anne M. Wagner has been teaching as professor for modern and contemporary art at the University of California in Berkeley since 1988. Her research activities focus on thematic fields such as the aesthetics of John Heartfield’s montage, cybernetics and the art of the 60s and 70s, the effects of gender politics and cultural (especially American) identity on contemporary artistic production, or physical materialism in performance. Among her numerous book publications belong »Mother Stone: The Vitality of Modern British Sculpture« (2005), »Three Artists (Three Women): Modernism and the Art of Hesse, Krasner, and O’Keeffe« (1996) and »Der Tanz: Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux« (1989). In addition, Anne Wagner has recently published essays on Willem De Kooning, Kara Walker and Gordon Matta-Clark.
