Copy, Cut & Paste: In the Internet era, every user of the possibilities in culture and media is not only a consumer, but also a creator of content—key word: “user-generated content.” Does that make every user an artist? Or even a plagiarist? What implications does that have for the quality of art and the traditional art industry? How do professional artists define themselves, and how can they protect themselves from plagiarism and having their ideas stolen? Is “paste” truly a sweet promise of salvation or does it simply lead to heavy, common “paste” as in glue? This topic will be illuminated from various disciplines in the context of a panel discussion.
