A central position of the exhibition »Fellow Travelers. Art as a tool to change the world« is dedicated to the work of the art cooperative CATPC (Cercle d'Art des Travailleurs de Plantation Congolaise) based in Lusanga, Democratic Republic of Congo. The cooperative uses the proceeds of its art to buy back former plantation land and preserve it for future generations.

Jérija Bengi, a filmmaker from Kinshasa who grew up in Germany, deals with social and societal issues in his work. His graduation film from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts focuses on his grandfather - born in 1940 in what was then the Belgian Congo. The film follows his memories of colonial times, independence and the Mobutu era, opening up a dialog between past and present.

At this event, Max Clausen invites you to an in-depth guided tour through the artistic practice of CATPC. It will be accompanied by personal stories and film excerpts by Jérija Bengi, whose great-grandfather once worked on the Belgian plantations in Lusanga.
