Day of the Orchard 2026

All of Europe will celebrate Orchard Day on Friday, April 24, 2026, and the following weekend. This interactive, experiential day features a variety of activities centered on the intangible cultural heritage of "orchard farming" and is themed "Good Things from Orchards." To celebrate, Kunstbus e.V. and the ZKM | Karlsruhe cordially invite you to join us on Sunday, April 26, 2026. 

Starting at 3 pm, there will be a picnic on Katzenwedelwiese in Beiertheim-Bulach. Everyone is welcome to bring a picnic blanket, as well as food and drinks. At the same time, there will be an upcycling and insect hotel workshop for young naturalists. Together with Kunstbus, participants will build an insect hotel out of tin cans and bamboo. Using imagination and natural materials, we’ll create little hideaways for bees, beetles, and other insects. Children ages 5 and up can participate in the workshop. 
Feel free to bring your own collected cans (empty and clean) to the workshop!

The Fruit and Horticulture Advisory Service of the Karlsruhe Real Estate Office will complement the event with a literature and reading corner on orchard meadows.

The grass can grow tall in the meadow in April, so don't just think about sun protection; also consider protection against insects and ticks.
