Civilization before the advent of the digital operated with two-dimensional notation. In the analogue world, all letters, images, numbers, and notes were always fixed on a two-dimensional surface. The computer-based installation »Alphabet Space«, developed in collaboration with Peter Weibel, Christian Lölkes, and Adam Słowik, introduces us to the new digital world of three-dimensional notation. Just as Leibniz was able to represent all numbers with just two digits (0,1), it is now possible to represent all 26 letters with a single three-dimensional character. The letters are described by parameters such as rotation or position of the geometric shape. By projecting the state of the base object, you get the current letter on the lefthand screen. If you hold the object still for a brief moment, the letter is saved and appears on the righthand screen. This allows you to write text character by character.
