To mark the anniversary of the revolution in Egypt a new film entitled »ART WAR«, by director Marco Wilms, is scheduled for screening at the ZKM | Karlsruhe as part of the exhibition »global aCtIVISm«. The artists Ganzeer and Ammar Abo Bakr, as well as the director will be present for the screening.

For »ART WAR«, Marco Wilms accompanied the actors of the Egyptian art scene, and thereby visualizes the explosive creativity in the aftermath of the Arab Spring in 2011 through to the toppling of President Mursi and the Muslim Brotherhood. The film is about art and war, about graffiti and the reconquest of the streets in the wake of the Mubarak dictatorship. The film’s protagonists draw on art as a weapon − the large-format graffiti and the paintings narrate the repression and the new awakening. Electropunk and Rap comprise the soundtrack to the lifestyle of the Egyptian revolutionary youth.

The film premiered on January 12, 2014 at 8 p.m. at Volksbühne Berlin.
