An Augmented Reality Performance
Please turn on your mobile telephones! With this request choreographer Fabien Prioville overrides a common rule of theater: Initially inviting his audience to download an App and, by way of Smartphone, he begins communicating with the dancers during the performance.
»The Smartphone Project« integrates the possibilities of a digital toy, which, from an exclusive status symbol, has become a central medium of communication in our time. The performance places in artistic context the potential of »Applications« to provide accurately developed information, and the omnipresence of mobile photographs and films which filter our perspective on reality.
In collaboration with the Bonn Fraunhofer-Institute for Applied Information Technology, which programmed an App especially for the performance, Fabien Prioville, along with former Pina Bausch dancer, Pascal Merighi and actress Florence Minder, staged a fusion of contemporary, media-technological dance, media technology and performance.
Fabien Prioville danced at La La La Human Steps by Canadian choreographer Édouard Lock, in Sweden under Philipp Blanchard, and was ensemble member at the Wuppertal Tanztheater from 1999 on. He has been developing his own choreographies since 2006, and works, among others, in projects with artists such as Josef Nadj and Davis Freeman.
