An explosive double concerto inspired by Morton Feldman’s »Patterns in a chromatic field«.
In its engagement with Morton Feldman’s »Patterns in a chromatic field«, various rhythmic patterns emerge. During rehearsals, these inspired Mathis Mayr and Antonis Anissegos to create autonomous pieces with their potential to open up new spaces in opposing directions. In doing so, the aim is to develop sound which accommodates the features characteristic of Feldman’s music in a constructive manner: An electronically amplified sound consisting of sound surfaces, an explosive rhythm section, with overlapping melodic sound levels and improvised enhancements. The underlying material is made up completely of fragments of the »Patterns in a chromatic field«composition. The project depends on creative musicians who can interpret the material composed by Feldman in a new way and who are able to bring the music to a new level in terms of improvisation.
Mathis Mayr electronically enhances the cello with various pedals. The grand piano is replaced by analogue and digital keyboard instruments. The Feldman duo is complemented by two important representatives of Berlin’s current creative scene: Norwegian e-bassist Dan Peter Sundland and drummer Daniel Schröteler. Sebastian Schottke electronically enriches the overall sound as the fifth member of the ensemble.
