A vocal journey through time from Schütz to Rihm and electroacoustic music
Fri, October 11, 2019 5 pm CEST, Concert

On the occasion of the 50th Heinrich-Schütz-Festival, the International-Heinrich-Schütz-Society will again be a visiting guest in the fan city of Karlsruhe since 1981.

During Heinrich Schütz's lifetime the city did not even exist – but Durlach with his courtyard and the Karl fortress did. The courtyard in Durlach had close ties to Landgrave Moritz von Hessen–Kassel, in whose service Heinrich Schütz served before moving to Dresden.

The Karlsruhe Festival is dedicated to the diversity of vocal music from Heinrich Schütz to Wolfgang Rihm. Numerous Karlsruhe institutions work together to present Karlsruhe as a city with a rich and diverse cultural offering. In addition, musicians and musicologists of international standing will enrich the Schütz Festival with concerts, a musicological symposium and courses.

The cooperation between the ZKM and CoroPiccolo Karlsruhe has a long tradition. In recent years, CoroPiccolo has been able to establish itself as a powerful chamber choir in the southwest and has made a name for itself through its highly acclaimed concerts. In this concert, the history of choral music from Schütz to modern times will be presented. Works by the Karlsruhe composer Wolfgang Rihm will play a central role.
