As a prelude to the exhibition »Infosphere«, ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe presents Ryoji Ikeda’s »micro | macro«.
The Japanese sound and visual artist thoroughly investigates data, light and sound on the basis of mathematical methods and physical theories to create immersive, large-scale installations that challenge visitors’ perception in their complex temporal and spatial presentation.
At ZKM, Ikeda has worked site-specifically on the monumental atrium architecture in the former munitions factory, completely transforming its appearance and shedding new light on the venue. His new works the »planck universe [micro]« and the »planck universe [macro]«, commissioned by ZKM for the exhibition and two works from the series »supersymmetry« (2014) are tightly synchronized, interwoven and counterpointed to turn the whole exhibition into a single large, audiovisual symphony.
