Urban Worlds – Home of the Future

Interdisciplinary Conference

Thu, October 15, 2015 10:00 am CEST

Karlsruhe Forum for culture, law and technique
Location
Media Theater
The urban habitat is not just the focus of the interdisciplinary Karlsruhe Forum conference as a result of the city of Karlsruhe’s 300th birthday. This habitat is increasingly gaining importance worldwide as cities are becoming more attractive to people mainly as a result of their versatility and wealth of options. At the same time though, cities are facing huge challenges: These not only include demographic change and the forward-looking demands for ecological and economic sustainability but cultural, social and technical developments also have to be reflected on if urban worlds are going to be the home of the future.

Attendees at the conference are attempting to find answers and solutions to this as well as throwing other questions and issues into the ring: the question of which features make a city attractive or the question of how artists deal with the realities of an urban environment. Ultimately they are looking at the very general question of which circumstances trigger feelings of unfamiliarity or home in the city of the future.
