The layout of an apartment always reflects complex social relationships. The work »Bewohnbare Bibliothek I – Der Aufzug ist die Wohnung« [Inhabitable Library I – The Elevator is the Apartment] depicts a new way of living, free from traditional conventions and adapted only to the individual wishes of the artist. The elevator does not lead to the apartment, it is the apartment. Equipped with a digital infrastructure that enables communication with both the library and with the outside world, the elevator functions as a space for living, sleeping, and working, always moving along the bookshelves.
