An enormous tape loop stretches across three tape recorders in »Ichmasse – Masseich« [I mass – mass I]. On the loop, a recording of the spoken word »ich« [»I« or »me«] travels from one tape recorder to the next. When the word arrives at a Magnetophon, the »ich« sound is heard. Each machine says »ich« [me] and thus asserts its own identity. However, it uses the same word »ich« [me] as the other machines. By proclaiming their individuality, their uniqueness, and their singularity using the same word, all the individuals form a homogeneous mass. The installation is not working; however, it can be seen in operation in the documentation.
