At the ZKM, media art meets the studio of graphic artist, lawyer and activist Klaus Staeck from the city of Heidelberg. With the help of two different recording techniques, the studio is digitized so that their combination allows a detailed walk through the studio.
To this end, Matterport is first used to create an overview of the studio before it is then given depth through Gaussian splatting: more than 5,000 photos are combined into a volume graphic using an algorithm in order to achieve the best possible 3D constructions and preserve the artistic value of Klaus Staeck's studio.
This is a joint project of the ZKM, Heidelberg Cultural Office and Klaus Staeck. It was initiated by Dr. Andrea Edel, Head of the Heidelberg Cultural Office.
