Biography
Francis R. Hewitt received drawing instruction from the painter Stuart Eldredge (1948–1954). He studied at the Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, PA (1954–1958, B.F.A. 1958) and art history at Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH (1958–1960, M.A. 1960). 1960–1971 founding member of Anonima Group. 1960–1964 faculty member of the Cleveland Institute of Art. 1962–1965 pursued coursework towards Ph.D. in aesthetics and art history at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland. 1966/1967 taught at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, 1965–1970 at Cooper Union, New York, and 1970–1992 at the University of Vermont.
