Otto Wanke
Biography
Otto Wanke was born in 1989 in the Czech Republic and lives in Austria. At the age of 18 he took private composition lessons, at 19 he began to study jazz composition at the Jazz Conservatory in Prague. As a composer he was mainly active in the field of chamber music during this time. After a two-year stay in Prague, Wanke moved to Vienna, where he studied classical composition with Wolfgang Liebhart and medial and electroacoustic composition with Karlheinz Essl and Iris ter Schiphorst at the Vienna University of Music. In Vienna he also began to work as a conductor and sound engineer. Wanke has given concerts in Germany, Lithuania, Mexico, Norway and Brazil. At the Radiokulturhaus in Vienna he premiered the orchestral works »Morphen« (2016) and »Shimmering« (2017). In February 2018 his commissioned work »Schatten...Ströme« was premiered at the Staatstheater Cottbus. Since 2018 he has been a doctoral student with Gesine Schröder at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, where he is employed at the Institute for Folk Music Research and Ethnomusicology.
