PVC3 is a forum for the discussion and presentation of contemporary products in the area of electronic media. Excessively fed by the global production of images by mass media - especially TV - the access to these media has nowadays become more important than the question of their quality and the meaning of the images themselves. In the age of the new media, this view obscured by functionalism was to be opened in favour of a wider horizon owing to artistic insights into the optical and acoustic mechanism of these media. It was for this purpose that the artists and art theorists Marina Abramovic, Thomas Feuerstein, Eva Grubinger, Richard Kriesche, Vollrad Kutscher, Geert Lovink, F. E. Rakuschan, Gereon Schmitz, Jill Scott, Jeffrey Shaw and Peter Weibel were invited for talks, to rekindle the interest in pictures which had already been lost in the continuous stream of mass media images or had not appeared there at all. The newest edition of the series ZKM digital arts edition documents these eleven talks, moderated in the middle of the nineties by the media theorist Johann Lischka, on DVD. The DVD features four-and-a-half hours of original video recordings which were digitally remastered. Three of the nine talks were held in English.
