Women Video Work(s)
Videos by women artists on the theme of work and production
Fri, April 17 – Sun, April 26, 2015
The online video exhibition curated especially from the ZKM | Collection and loans for this year’s Women’s Perspectives Festival, »About Work – About Life«, is available online in the form of a virtual exhibition for the duration of the festival.
Women have played an influential role in video art from the outset, using the medium to articulate a new image of women and feminist positions that extend beyond the traditional, male-dominated art genres.
In so doing they have also addressed the working and production conditions specific to female artists.
The video program spans from the 1960s to the present. It features works that reflect on the contrast between domestic and artistic production, as well as the role of women in a professional and media world defined by male stereotypes. A common theme is the work of the woman artist, but women’s work as a global balancing act between production and reproduction is also reflected upon.
