Dance between AI and human artistic creation

»Precious Camouflage« is a performative dance piece by Charlotte Triebus for four dancers and four AI systems that explores the collaboration of human dancers with AI agents. The piece questions the relationship between artistic dance work and artificial intelligence systems in an attempt to understand how systems are trained and how they interpret human input.

AI agents produce realistic-looking content on an assembly line and set seemingly moral boundaries - images of people that could exist, interpretations of (body) political content, and the likelihood of what will be seen.

What does that mean in the context of movement and dance? Who has the power of interpretation? What does it mean when the generated data set wants to pretend to be human as credibly as possible? In the piece Precious Camouflage, four dancers from Charlotte Triebus' New Human Body Society work with four AI agents. The autonomous systems can perceive, decide, and act independently, influencing both the choreography and the live action on stage. The core of the work is a large installation of 5 LED elements, between which the dancers perform on stage. "Precious Camouflage" involves the audience in an examination of the pressing questions surrounding the use, meaning, possibilities and dangers of AI. Under the artistic direction of Charlotte Triebus, »Precious Camouflage« was created in close collaboration with the MIREVI Lab at the University of Applied Sciences Düsseldorf and vobe.digital.
