- Description
In the video work "Violin Power" Steina Vasulka, who trained as a classical violinist, combines audio signal and video image. Thus, the sound waves generated by the musical instrument begin to increasingly influence the video image showing the violinist - initially in concrete cinematic scenes, up to abstract curve images in which neither the violin nor the violinist can be recognized.
Author: Julia Ihls
At the beginning of the "Violin Power" experiments in the 1970s, Steina Vasulka used scan processors to modulate the sound waves in post-production, but later she worked with a ZETA MIDI violin and the Image/ine software for direct video manipulation in real time.
