Bang on a Can All-Stars
Experimental Ambient Music
Thu, April 15, 2010 8:00 pm CEST
Brian Enos “Music for Airports” in 1978 marked the founding of a new music style: Ambient music. The subtle compositional character of Eno’s “airport music” makes it a milestone in recent music history – between serious new music and popular influences. The Bang on a Can All-Stars perform the album version by Eno as an instrumental adaptation. In addition, the group presents works by Michael Nyman (including “The Piano”), with driving, pulsating bass lines by the British composer Julia Wolfe as well as a new work by the most well-known composer from The Netherlands, Louis Andriessen, with a film by Marijke van Warmerdam (Professor at the Kunstakademie Karlsuhe).
The Bang on a Can All-Stars, founded in 1992 and since active as an international ensemble, work within a hybrid musical spectrum with their unusual rock and jazz-related program and various playing techniques.
