Katrin Jakobsen: Everything’s Gonna be Fine

Sat, May 08, 2010 – Sun, July 25, 2010
When Katrin Jakobsen was confronted on a business trip to Thailand and Cambodia with the fate of thousands of battered and abused children, whose only chance for survival is to sell their bodies to »sex tourists«, she decided to do something about it. In »alles wird gut« the media artist and photographer presents videos, mixed media installations, photographs, as well as a documentary poster wall with which she aims to draw attention to the various aspects of sexual abuse of children. Jakobsen's photos show doll houses she built herself, which serve as backdrops for fictive scenes playing out immediately before or after the sexual abuse of a child. With these miniature spaces, as well as her guerilla art actions in the public space, the artists forces beholders to look carefully.
In light of the recently revealed sexual abuse scandal in educational facilities, the exhibition integrates into the current debate and encourages further discussion: what can each and every one
of us do to help the victims? How can the sexual abuse of children be prevented in the future?
