Quantum Leaps XIV
Sat, March 10, 2012 – Sun, March 11, 2012, Festival
The biannual music festival Quantum Leaps XIV, taking place at ZKM | Karlsruhe, presents works by grant recipients of the International Ensemble Modern Academy in Frankfurt, in the genres of modern and contemporary music. One focal point of Quantum Leaps XIV is on the US-American composer and artist John Cage (1912-1992) and two of the – at first glance – very proven and conservative formations, the string quartet and the brass quintet. As John Cage dealt with both formations in the role of a musical worldview remodeler, it promises to be an exciting listening experience.

In the works of Iannis Xenakis, Luciano Berio, George Crumb, Tristan Murail and Luca Francesconi, paths of electronic sound creation are shown, which, through their various aesthetic approaches, first enable the new wealth of musical tones in twentieth century music. In Anton Webern’s “Konzert op 24” of 1934, as well as the new composition “folklich” by the young IEMA composer Birke Bertelsmeier of Karlsruhe, one finds, on the other hand, ideas on the topic “ensemble concert”.
