In keeping with this year’s KAMUNA motto, the ZKM also presents itself as networked: whether in virtual space, in a geographic connection or in thematic diversity – cultural networking shows itself in numerous and multiple situations.

At the ZKM | Media Museum, the exhibition Beat Generation / Allen Ginsberg presents the life and influence of one of the protagonists of the Beat Generation, which distinguished itself around the mid twentieth century by way of a hitherto unprecedented network. In keeping with the theme, the exhibition may be viewed simultaneously in Metz, Tourcoing and Rennes. The possible ways in which a globalized world of contemporary artistic cultures could develop is shown in the exhibitions Move on Asia. Video Art in Asia 2002 to 2012 and Du Zhenjun. Babel World. Whereas, with the exhibition The Algorithm of Manfred Mohr. 1963−now a pioneer of the link between art and computer technology is presented. Eran Schaerf. FC Scenario: Reality Race shows an international project, which utilizes the Internet as site of production. At the ZKM_Music Balcony a 3D workshop is shown which includes everything required to print in 3D.
The Internet itself has a number of things to offer for games lovers, and yet also with ZKM_Gameplay, passionate players of the new games platform at the ZKM will get their money’s worth. A Journey into the Brain presented in the ZKM_Medialounge shows the networking of numerous synapses, which determine thought and action, and augmented reality stations reveal the special connection of seeing and hearing in which the sounds of the IDEAMA Archivesare visualized via iPad. The ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics invites visitors to linger a while in the Ambient Zone with concerts and DJ sets located at the ZKM_Cube; in the ZKM_Foyer, an interactive game awaits the visitors, and the Big Wishful Music with The Wishful Matrix (You&Me-isms Part 2), the installation by Boris Petrovsky. In the evening, the ZKM holds retrospective shows at the Media Theater of its international program, among others, under the title Globale Impulses.

The ZKM | Museum of Contemporary Art also takes up thematic global networks: Cross-border presents works by contemporary artists from the Mediterranean Region treating the theme of borders. An artists’ discussion will take place as part of the exhibition on the theme of Borders and strategies for overcoming these.
The American artist Matthew Day Jackson’s analysis of the technologized world is presented in Matthew Day Jackson. Total Accomplishment. A fictional approach is taken in The Gernsback Prophecy: The exhibition is dedicated to the work of co-founder of the science fiction genre, Hugo Gernsback. Generosity. Presents and Loans from the ZKM Collection honors the act of giving and donation through which in recent years the ZKM Collection has been enriched with important works of art by internationally known artists. The workshop ZKM_Stories invites visitors of all ages to produce their own photographs, film and sound recordings in the ZKM halls, and to create their own, fascinating stories around these. Inspiration for this is provided by the exhibition Werner Büttner. Gemeine Wahrheiten: the artist himself illustrates ironic, social realities, which also show his creative connection to work and title. With his performance Otso Huopaniemi demonstrates everything that can be done with "Google Translate". Furthermore, in addition to guided tours, guided actions as well as guided tours in the French language will be held in both museums.

And, finally, a range of other things will be offered on the ZKM_Forecourt, among others, the large-scale sound installation The Morning Line which can be viewed for the first time. Although it will only be completely ready by the beginning of the new art season in mid-September, we do not wish to deprive visitors of the really "encompassing" ambience of the KAMUNA evening, which will be accompanied by a DJ.
