International Museum Day 2016

The aim of the International Museum Day is to draw attention to the wide range of museum work and the thematic diversity of the 6,500 museums in Germany. The ZKM will also open its gates on Sunday, May 22, 2016 from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm – with free admission to the museums.
Launched in 1977, the International Museum Day points out the importance of the museums' work as a contribution to the cultural and social life. At the same time, visitors are encouraged to explore the shown treasures.

Admission to the museums is free on International Museum Day, the fee for the Public Tours is 2 Euro per person.
With the social media campaign »#PaintMuseum« for the International Museum Day, museums – and their visitors – show that local and regional relationships extend into the virtual space and museums, its objects and visitors are globally connected. The idea: Museum visitors present their favorite objects in the museum via the hashtag »#Paintmuseum« on the social networks, after creating little digital artworks of them using painting and drawing apps.
