Media art as a byproduct. Studies on institutional genealogy of new artistic media, forms and practices

What role do art institutions and cultural policy play in current artistic production? How do they influence the topics, content and strategies of conceptualization in contemporary art? In the scope of »media lounge at six«, curator, art critic and media artist Dr. Lioudmilla Voropai talks about these questions.

For the example of media art, which was able to become institutionally established due to a cultural policy boom in the 1990s, Lioudmila Voropai investigates forms and mechanisms of the impact of social, political and economic factors on artistic practice.

Therefore, the study goes way beyond the limits of an institutional-critical piece of work, and offers a broader theoretical analysis of the institutional problems in art.
